Weymouth's Summer Park and Ride Scheme - A great way to start the day

Download a Map of Weymouth's Summer Park and Ride Scheme Follow the 'Park and Ride' signs to the Lodmoor Car Park to catch the free return bus service to the K7 bus stop on the Esplanade (handy for the town centre shops and for the Main Beach). Pay and display charges apply on the car park.

Days of Operation

During 2010 the Park and Ride service will operate on the following dates:

  • May 1st ,2nd and 3rd
  • May 29th to June 4th (inclusive)
  • July 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th
  • Daily from July 24th to September 3rd (inclusive)

Bus Services

When the Park and Ride service is operating, the free buses run between the Park and Ride stop within the Lodmoor Car Park and the 'K7' bus stop (on The Esplanade), every 15 minutes from 9.30am to 7.00pm. Every effort will be made to achieve the advertised bus frequency. However, no liability is accepted if late running occurs due to traffic congestion at peak periods.

After 7.00pm, Park and Ride return tickets are valid to return to the site from bus stop 'K1' by the King's Statue, to the bus stop on the main road by the entrance to the Lodmoor Car Park (using First Buses' service No.4).

On those dates when the Park and Ride service is not operating, Lodmoor Car Park is accessible using First Buses' services to and from Preston, Sutton Poyntz and the Town Centre (the bus stops are situated on the main road, near to the car park entrance). Normal fares will apply.

Land Train

As an alternative to the free bus service, there is also the Weymouth Land Train service. During 2010 this will operate daily from Good Friday (2nd April) to the 30th September, from the Land Train stop at Lodmoor (on The Esplanade opposite the Sea Life Centre - use the pedestrian crossing by the car park entrance, then turn left), along the pedestrian Esplanade, to the the Esplanade opposite the King's Statue (which is adjacent to the Main Beach and is close to the shops). The train runs every half an hour between 10.30am and 5.00pm, with the first journey departing Lodmoor at 10.30am and the last one leaving from the Esplanade opposite the King's Statue at 5.00pm.

Land Train fares for 2010 are as follows:-

  • Adults (one way) £1.40
  • Children (one way) £1.00

Please note that this service runs subject to weather conditions and that train arrivals and departures may vary slightly or may have to be cancelled without warning.

Pay and Display parking Charges for the Lodmoor Car Park 1st April to 31st October 2010

  • Up to 2 hours - £2.10

Please note that the car park's vehicular entrance/exit points are locked between midnight and 7.00am daily (pedestrian access is available at all times).

Lodmoor's Country Park and Nature Reserve

The Lodmoor Car Park is situated within the Lodmoor Country Park, which is adjacent to the Lodmoor R.S.P.B. Nature Reserve. In addition to its open spaces and children's play area, the Country Park also hosts the following visitor attractions:-

  • Weymouth Sea Life Park
  • Pirate Adventure Mini Golf
  • The Lodmoor Family Pub
  • Lodmoor Travel Inn
  • 9 Hole Pitch and Putt Golf Course
  • The Front SK8 Park (Skate Park)
  • 5 J's Café
  • Rio Grande Miniature Railway
  • Go-Karts, Cresta Run slide and Speedy Family Roller Coaster

As well as being served by the large Lodmoor Car Park, all of these attractions and the Park and Ride service are also easily accessible from the nearby (much smaller) Beach Car Park (which is suitable for use by cars and motor cycles only, due to a vehicle width restriction limit of 2.1 metres at its entrance). Beach Car Park, which is only 300 metres from (and is connected by footpaths to) the main Lodmoor Car Park, is the nearer of the two to the western entrance to the R.S.P.B. Nature Reserve. The same rates of pay and display charges apply at both car parks.

The Esplanade and Greenhill Beach are directly opposite these car parks on the other side of the main road. To access them, please use either the pedestrian crossing by the Lodmoor Car Park entrance or the traffic island by the entrance to the Beach Car Park.

Greenhill Gardens are only a short walk away and most people find that the level walk from the Lodmoor Car Park, along The Esplanade to the Town Centre and the Main Beach is easily achievable in less than 20 minutes.

Whether you decide to spend your time at Lodmoor, with its varied attractions and its shingle beach, or you decide to use the car park as a base from which to visit the town centre and the sands, we hope that your stay will be an enjoyable one.
